Outgoing and intuitive, Cher makes everyone feel welcome and is the head cookie baker. She loves sharing her Greek heritage with special, hand braided Koulourakia cookies. 

ROD WINCHELL

An avid cook and baker extraordinaire, Rod is the man behind the bread and the amazing transformation of the cafe space into the San Felipe Bread and More Bakery.

IT ALL STARTED WITH A MISSION TO CREATE SOURDOUGH...


Finding a loaf of San Francisco style sourdough in this sunny, seaside Mexican village proved futile and all the loaves from SF was crowding out their food in the fridge.


So Rod, the ever-industrious man he is, set out on a mission to create the starter and make loaves of the mouth-watering, sour bread with the perfect crust... 


Testing out his recipe at the local swap meet, Cher and Rod were inundated with orders. The home oven wasn't up to this new workload, so Rod purchased and fixed up an old pizza oven.


The big oven needed a big home. They found the old Mota 2000 grocery store, which had gone out of business and with love and dedication transformed the run-down space into the beautiful, new bakery cafe San Felipe Bread and More.

Tips And Tricks

SOURDOUGH SECRETS
The secret to the sourdough flavor is in the starter, the fermented mixture of flour, yeast, warm water, and sugar. Growing the right starter, and keeping it alive can be challenging. Come in to ask Rod how his bread rivals the famous San Francisco sourdough found along Fisherman's wharf.

GETTING TO GREAT WITH SPICES

Many of us are moving toward healthier cooking, with simple grilled meats and steamed veggies. But healthy doesn't have to mean boring. Spices can add a whole new dimension, and provide some hard to get vitamins and minerals too. Ask Cher and Rod to recommend which spice mix would work best with your everyday favorite meats, fish, veggies, rice, potatoes, even your popcorn. Spices turn good into great!

THE ART OF GREEK COOKIES

The Greeks have a unique way of blending art into everything, even simple cookies.  The secret to making Greek Koulourakia is making sure the dough isn't too sticky or too dry, and of course, the dash of anise gives them a slight licorice flavor. Come in to try Cher's delicious Greek cookies!

San Felipe Bread and More is located in the seaside village of San Felipe, Mexico. San Felipe is located on the Gulf of California in the Mexican state of Baja California, next to the Sea of Cortez. It's about 118 miles (190 kilometers) south of the U.S. border.
